Susan Hayek-Kent : going with the flow

“I like ‘organic’, which isn’t always pristine.”

I stumbled on Susan’s work through Flickr, the photo sharing website. We both love dogs and black & white photography, which seemed a good beginning. Then as I explored Susan’s images, I was drawn into her creative world.

Sharing home with husband Leon, six dogs and ‘a bunch of chickens’, most of her pictures are taken close to home. And having rediscovered photography as a form of personal expression, Susan’s not afraid to experiment. In her own words ‘I have no formal training, it’s all trial and error’.

Looking at Susan’s photos on Flickr and on her website, this openness to chance and error runs like a thread through her work. Indeed, I’d argue that it goes a long way towards explaining why she continues to create such fresh and powerful images. But I’ll stop now and let the photos speak for themselves.
