Undercover dog
Crossing Soho one afternoon, I found this Dachshund lying on a bench. Sheltered from the cold, she seemed happy to watch the world go by.
The scene had the makings of a good picture : an appealing dog, unexpectedly lying under a raincoat, with an uncluttered background. The only drawback was the light. With the sun behind a cloud, it was dull.
Hoping the light would improve, I chatted to the owner and waited – until warm frontal light came streaming over my shoulder. In the late afternoon sunshine I managed three or four shots, before the curtain came down. The sun had dropped behind a nearby building.
For me, reading the light is one of the most challenging – and sometimes frustrating – aspects of photography. If you’d like to share your experiences, do leave a comment.
So serious – she’s lovely.
Yes, she is lovely – I wanted to stroke her ears, which were almost like silk.
She looks warm and snug – what time of year was it?
It was October, Maria – sunny but cold in London.
